Description
Our aim is to breed horses that can excel at the highest level of competition. We have selected bloodlines for their temperament, conformation and aptitude for the work and that special quality that the Europeans call “rideability”. Mayfield Farm horses can be enjoyed by riders at any level.
Stud principal Kerry Mack has a wealth of experience in showjumping, eventing and hunting, as well as dabbling with show classes, harness, and western before focusing on Dressage. She knows from personal experience that most riders need to fit their equestrian pursuits into a life where career and family are also important, so temperament, trainability, and soundness are paramount if you are to enjoy your horse and make progress with training.
Mayfield youngsters are well mannered, easy to handle having enjoyed extensive handling right from birth, along with correct nutrition, worming and foot care. They are given the important early lesson such as tying up and floating when they are young and this encourages them to accept their later training with confidence.
We believe that crossing the best European Warmblood lines with Australian performance lines will give refinement, soundness and a forward thinking attitude that makes them light off the leg and easy to ride and therefore, ideally suited for Australian riders. The trend in Europe has moved towards finer, more attractive types that are more appropriate for ladies to ride and this has been an important criteria for the stud's selection of foundation stock.
We go to Europe regularly in order to keep up with the latest developments and see the major competitions and to observe judging trends. Our frozen semen programme has utilised the well respected and proven lines such as Purioso and Walt Disney and have taken account of the influence of new stars like Rohdiamant and Rotspon, who have made an impact in Australia.
